Reconciling self-employment charges counts as changing your return
People who only expect to reconcile egenavgifter are now expressly covered by the change list, so their return counts as changed and the April refund is off the table.

Anyone who declares digitally by 31 March 2026 without changing or adding anything can receive any tax refund between 7 and 10 April 2026Skatteverket, with the final-tax decision arriving between 6 and 10 April. Three conditions must all be met: declare with e-legitimation or codes in the Inkomstdeklaration 1 e-service (codes also work by SMS or phone), declare by 31 March 2026, and approve the return without altering or supplementing any item — no added deduction, no added income.
Skatteverket A digital mailbox is not required for the April refund, but a bank account for the payout must have been registered unless one already is.
What counts as a change is decisive, and the list of examples has grown by one clauseSkatteverket. It counts as a change or addition to sell a home and file appendix K5 or K6, to sell shares or securities and file K4, to run a sole business and file NE, to hold a company and file K10 or N3A, to claim deductions such as commuting expenses, to declare royalty or hobby income at point 1.6 for egenavgifter — and this bullet now expressly adds people who only expect to reconcile egenavgifter
Skatteverket. Further bullets cover foreign income not already in the return, removing a pre-created appendix such as NE, K5, K6 or K10, filing K2 when a preliminary deferral becomes final or is reversed, submitting any other information concerning the return, and renting out a dwelling where the rent exceeds 40,000 kronor in the year. A change can also come from the other side, for example when an employer or a bank submits a new or corrected statement.
Anyone whose return counts as changed leaves the April trackSkatteverket: Skatteverket must review the return again before the final-tax decision and any refund are issued
Skatteverket, and the decision may arrive later if questions have to be asked or new information arrived after the return was created. The published timetable then gives the decision between 8 and 12 June and the refund between 9 and 12 June for returns filed by 4 May on paper or digitally, the decision and refund between 3 and 7 August and 4 and 7 August respectively for accountant-assisted returns filed by 15 June under byråanstånd and for others who missed the April and June rounds, for example after extended filing time, and December dates for those who never received a decision or lack Swedish tax registration. People who do not have to declare at all follow a separate table, with April dates for those born in 2007 or later and August dates for those born in 2006 or earlier.
Practical points apply regardless of track. The account must have been registered no later than three weeks after the final-tax decision for the money to be paid out automatically; later registration means the payout has to be requested once the account is registered, most easily in the Skattekonto e-service, normally arriving within three bank days. Amounts below 100 kronor are not paid out until the balance reaches 100 kronor. A refund is first set against any debt with Kronofogden, with only the remainder paid to the recipient. For sole traders, the egenavgifter reconciliation itself means comparing the previous year's provisional standard deduction, entered at box R40 of the NE form, against the egenavgifter actually charged, deducted at box R41Skatteverket — a reconciliation that must also be done the year after the business ends.
The timetable is Skatteverket's published schedule for Inkomstdeklaration 1Skatteverket, where the change list decides whether a return can be finalised without further review
Skatteverket.
If you only reconcile egenavgifter, expect your return to count as changed: declare by 4 May and plan for the June refund instead of April.
