HMRC's lists of recognised payroll software no longer include seven productsGOVGOV that appeared in the previous version. From the free-software list — recognised by HMRC for businesses with fewer than 10 employees — four entries are gone: 1st Money (GB) Ltd's 1st FREE+ Payroll & HR, Collegia Partners Ltd's Collegia FreePayroll, Employment Hero (UK) Ltd's Employment Hero Free Payroll, and IRIS Software Ltd's IRIS Payroll BasicsGOVGOVGOVGOVGOVGOVGOV. From the paid list, three entries are gone: Buddy Limited's Buddy, Criterion Inc's Criterion HCM, and Indus Software Ltd's Indus Payroll.GOVGOVGOV

The lists present payroll software recognised by HMRC, which can be used to report PAYE online. The page advises readers to consider which features they need and to check the software chosen has those features. Anyone currently filing through one of the seven removed products will no longer find it on the current lists.GOV The page's own advice applies: consider which features are needed, check the chosen software has those features, and pick from the products the current lists recognise before the next filing run.

The same update made purely cosmetic renames to remaining entries. Enrolpay Ltd's product is now styled Enrolpay Small Payroll rather than Enrolpay -Small Payroll. Acting Office Ltd's entry reads Acting Office — Payroll instead of Acting Office - Payroll, and Remote Technology Services Ltd's reads Remote — Payroll instead of Remote - Payroll. Innovatie Ltd's paiyroll® lost its registered-trademark symbol and now reads paiyroll. These renames do not change which products the lists recognise.

HMRC states on the page that it cannot recommend one product or service over another, and that it is not responsible for problems with software bought by users. The page points employers taking on staff to separate guidance on getting the business ready to employ staff before choosing software.

Legal basis: HMRC recognition as published in the find-payroll-software guidance.

Check whether your payroll product is still on HMRC's recognised list and, if it was one of the seven removed, pick a recognised replacement with the features you need before your next PAYE filing run.
