ATP adds Excel filing route for foreign employers

Foreign employers that cannot use eIndkomst or ATP self-service and report for 10+ staff can now file ATP contributions on an Excel form via ATP's contact form.

Payroll & Labour

Foreign companies with employees working in Denmark must report and pay the total ATP contribution (ATP-bidrag) for them; the contributions fund ATP Livslang Pension, paid out automatically at folkepensionsalderen. As employer, the company pays two thirds of the contribution and the employee one third via salary. A foreign company first needs a CVR/SE number — registration with Erhvervsstyrelsen no later than 8 days after the first salary payment — and then contacts ATP Livslang Pension, which registers the company so reporting can begin.

The standard channels are eIndkomst, or ATP's selvbetjening where eIndkomst is unavailable. The new Indberetning section adds a third routeVirk for a defined group: employers that cannot report via eIndkomst or ATP's selvbetjening and must report ATP contributions for more than 10 employees can use an Excel form (Indberetningsblanket, XLSX)Virk — fill it in, save it, and submit it through ATP's contact form (kontaktformular)Virk. The wording is permissive ("kan du med fordel benytte"), so it is an offered channel, not a new duty.Virk

Once reported, ATP contributions are collected quarterly through Samlet Betaling; companies not enrolled in Digital Post must tell Samlet Betaling where to send the bill. Reported contributions must be paid on time even if no bill has arrived, and must be paid by the deadline rather than in advance with payroll — advance payments risk being returned and having to be paid again. Corrections to a filed ATP report go through eIndkomst.

Foreign employers also carry adjacent duties: where an employee from abroad has no Danish residential address, the employer must arrange a Danish CPR number — an administrative personal number via Skattestyrelsen for tax or via ATP for ATP reporting (one application suffices, not both). For ATP-issued numbers the employer sends a request through "Kontakt ATP" with a colour copy of the passport or national photo ID (all four corners visible) and the employee's address.

Legal basis: the employer duties for ATP Livslang Pension contributions as described in Virk's "ATP Livslang Pension — Udenlandsk virksomhed" guidance, with the new Indberetning section offering the Excel-form channel for employers reporting for more than 10 employees outside eIndkomst and selvbetjeningVirk.

If a foreign employer cannot report ATP contributions via eIndkomst or ATP self-service for more than 10 employees, complete the Indberetningsblanket Excel form and submit it through ATP's contact form, and register the company with Erhvervsstyrelsen within 8 days of first payroll.
