Salaried workers in Monaco's complementary pension scheme now have a published annual point value: each CMRC point is worth 1,6400 € a year from 1 October 2026. The figure appears on both the direct-pension and the widow's reversion pages of the Caisses Sociales de Monaco and drives both calculations: the monthly direct pension equals the number of points multiplied by the annual point value and divided by twelve, and the monthly widow's reversion equals the deceased spouse's complementary points multiplied by 60%, by the point value and divided by twelve.
The CMRC (Caisse Monégasque de Retraite Complémentaire) has been the complementary scheme for private-sector employees in Monaco since 1 January 2024. Points earned for Monegasque periods before that date were transferred from Agirc-Arrco to the CMRC on a one-for-one basis, and points for activity or equivalent periods from 1 January 2024 accrue directly with the CMRC. Both vintages count in the pension: the reversion calculation expressly takes in Agirc-Arrco points for Monegasque periods before 1 January 2024 transferred to the CMRC alongside CMRC points from 1 January 2024.
Opening a complementary direct pension requires a basic CAR pension right to be open, through CAR-contributed or assimilated periods alone or with totalised periods from other schemes. The statutory retirement age remains 65, with an unreduced early pension before that age only after ceasing all professional activity and receiving no sickness, work-accident or unemployment benefits: from age 55 for mothers who raised at least three children for eight years before their 16th birthdays, and between 60 and 65 for anyone meeting the minimum activity condition. From 65 the pension may be drawn while continuing to work. Claims by existing CAR retirees go to the Service Retraite during the civil quarter for which payment is sought; others use the single CAR-CMRC process, including online filing from the insured's personal account. No increase applies for drawing after 65.
The widow's complementary reversion likewise requires a basic CAR reversion right to be open, is assessed at the date the reversion claim is filed, and ends on remarriage or cohabitation. Where a child of the union exists no marriage duration is required; otherwise the widow must show four years of marriage at death or a marriage celebrated two years before the direct pension took effect. A widow with a dependent child of the household at the date of death may claim before 50; otherwise from 50. The reversion's effective date follows that of the CAR pension.
Pensions are paid by transfer monthly in arrears, on the first working day of the following month for residents of Monaco, France or Italy and quarterly in arrears otherwise. Simulation results from the online tool remain indicative estimates only. The legal basis is the CMRC point value published by the Caisses Sociales de Monaco, applied through the CAR-CMRC pension rules.
